Frugal Monday- HIT THE ROAD

Every day we strive to make more money. We strive to live better than our family members before us. We want better for our own families. I think the problem with people today is that they lose sight of what ''living within ones' means'' entails. I know we all want the best of the best; however, why must that put us all in debt? Our family strives to live within our means and become more aware. I know being 'green', and being 'all natural' is a very popular concept. Look how it got our ancestors through hard times!
I, like most american's, despise living pay check to pay check. I have made a vow to myself that I need to just be happy with what I have and have been given. I need to live simply. So most days I am going to try and post a new frugal living tip, or advice to help people see what I do to live frugally. I am not all knowing on this subject. I am very new to this idea. I would like to learn together with others to make a better future for us and our family. So I welcome tips and advice of others. Let us learn together!

On that note: Frugal living tip #1- Hit the road.

Holy cow, anyone see the price of gas lately? Oh I know, how could we miss it? With gas prices rising and our only working car broke, time to make lemonade! Shoot, how many cups with buy me a new car? Instead of buying a car we decided to hit the road in a new way. As soon as I knew our car broke I needed to figure out a way to get to work. I know biking to work is not for everyone, but we live only around two miles from work and knew biking or walking wouldn't be that hard of task. We underestimated head winds, wow.  I went on craigslist and found a couple of bikes for myself and papa bear. I enlisted the help of a friend with a working car and we went to pick up our new to us bikes!
We came home and made sure they were in working order. I am a short lady and riding bikes has always been a little tough for me. I tried it out and man, was I scared. It has been at least six years or more since I have been on a bike. I am a lot better now. My amazing hubby got on it like nothing! Needless to say, we both have actually enjoyed riding them to work. For me it has been a great source of exercise, and a way to let off some stress. I can feel my confidence growing and I can tell I am helping myself all around. I know riding a bike has brought my hubby back in time to when he use to ride his bike every day. I think it really has helped him relieve some stress. The exercise doesn't hurt either. Now I may not recommend trying to start this in mid October in Nebraska, but you do what is best for you! Nebraska winter biking is considered an extreme sport right?
As I said earlier, I know this option is not for everyone. You can; however, tailor this idea to fit your needs. Use your bike for quick trips to the store with a little basket to bring home your goodies. Hitch on a kiddie trailer and take along all your baby bears. Make this a fun family thing. It gets the family out, saves you some money, and hey who couldn't use a little more exercise?

Take frugal living one day at a time. It's not going to change in one day. Stay positive. Be Frugal!

Love.
